Multicultural BRIDGE Summer Program Returns
12:40PM / Monday, August 03, 2015

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Multicultural BRIDGE again will offer its unique summer educational opportunity for students ages 5-12 at the Guthrie Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 10-14.

For this one week, BRIDGE staff are offering students a program that provides tools for students to flourish and thrive at home, in their neighborhoods and community, and in the school year.  BRIDGE is offering a newly designed program, Happiness Toolbox, that combines cultural, social and emotional learning models with positive psychology to support resilience, engagement and happiness. The curriculum is based on evidence-based research on how to support a child’s overall success, engagement with peers and adults, development and, most of all happiness in today’s social climate.

While having fun, students will have an opportunity to learn Spanish and learn about cultures that speak the Spanish language; learn some Berkshire history; practice cross-cultural communication skills; practice skills of mindfulness, service leadership, “bucket” filling and resilience; and participate in traditional summer activities such as outdoor exploration, games and arts and crafts.

During the year, these BRIDGE courses have been found during  in-school residencies, afterschool and summer programs and the benefit of this one week is to experience them all together with our BRIDGE staff.  Student throughout Berkshire County are receiving this leadership and mentor training in their schools and now have an opportunity to do it while having fun in the August summer.

The Guthrie Center is hosting and partnering on the music program for the week. Gideon’s Garden is providing some nutritious food and healthy snacks. The program cost is $150; need-based scholarships are available. Morning and afternoon snack provided. Email adminsupport@multiculturalbridge.org or call 413-394-4029 to register.
