Print | Email

The kindergarteners at Cheshire Elementary School again share their ideas on how cook a turkey. Teachers Robin Poirot and Heather Emerson sent their amusing and informative essays to share with our readers, including tales of some fast-cooking turkeys. Happy Thanksgiving!
By Mrs. Poirot's Class
My great-gram will probably buy a 50-pound turkey at Big Y. You have to cut the head off and put it outside for bait for a bear, fisher cat, fox or coyote. Next you would stuff it with chicken and rice. The oven should be at 51 degrees for just a few minutes until you hear the ding.
Julius Valentine

My Thanksgiving will be at Gram’s house. She will get the turkey at Walmart for about $21. It will be as big as a giant rock and weigh about 3 pounds. There will be no stuffing inside but she will put salt on the outside and cook it at 40 degrees for about one minute then it will be done.
Jacob Carpenter

We will get our turkey from my nana and grampa's house. I think they caught it in the woods. They put it in bag and staple it and when they get home they hurry up and cook it. They put it on the grill with turkey seeds stuffed inside of it. That makes the turkey get bigger. It will weigh about 45 pounds. After they put broccoli on it, they cook it for about 5 minutes at 45 degrees. We will have carrots with it. It tastes really good!
Ethan Robbins

We will have our turkey from Big Y. After she takes it out of the bag and cuts the paper off, she washes it, stuffs it with mashed potatoes and puts it in the oven. It weighs about 5 pounds and it needs to cook for about 5 minutes at 5 degrees.
Callie Meyette

We will be going to Aunt Donna's to have a turkey that she gets from Walmart in the food aisle. It will probably weigh about 100 pounds. After she has two men (probably my dad and Walter) help her carry it to the car, she will bring it home. She will probably put some ketchup on it and put pumpkins around it. She will put it in there for 100 hours at 100 degrees. It will be super hot and everyone says "YUM!"
Brogan Larabee

We got our turkey from Stop and Shop and we will eat at my house. She will probably unwrap it then she will put things like gravy on it and I think she puts a little butter on it. Next she will put it in the oven at 40 degrees until dinner time for about 18 minutes at 14 degrees. When she takes it out, we'll eat that turkey with a little cranberry sauce on the side.
Mason Mirke

We are going to my friend Nina's house for Thanksgiving. They probably got their turkey at "Stopping Shop." It will weigh 20 pounds. She will cut it and put it in the pan with gravy and cook it 50 minutes at 1 degree hot. She will serve it on plates with cranberry sauce. That is my favorite!
Isla Osterberg

Somebody hunts for the turkey and they bring the turkey to my house. It was a huge turkey and weighs 10 pounds. They pull the feathers really hard and they put them outside so if cats find them they could bring them to their kitten families to play with them.
Next they cook the turkey with a little pepper and a little salt and put it in the oven with a few green beans on top with some strawberries on one side and blueberries on the other side. After it is cooked for about 1 hour just to get it warm enough to eat. It will be delicious!
Layla Pulley

We will buy our turkey because my mom doesn't like hunting things. She broke a bow and arrow once. It will weigh about 3 pounds when we buy it from Big Y. When we bring it home we will put it in a pan and pour gravy on top and then cook it for 4 hours and we will eat it with potatoes, cranberries and beans.
Jaida Davis

We will get our turkey in the woods with a bow and arrow. It will probably weigh about 507 pounds. I will help dad carry it. Then you have to scale it. I will put the feathers in my room so I can look at them and feel them. After the feathers are off, you put peas on top of the turkey. We stuff it with lemons and butter and cook it in the oven at 2 degrees for 5 hours. Then we eat it with salad and mashed potatoes.
Carson Kelly-Phillips

We will get our turkey at the Big Y. We will get a 30-pound turkey and put it in a really big bag and carry it home. When we get home it goes in the oven after I put some salt and a little tiny pinch of pepper on it. The oven needs to heat to 50 degrees and if you check it 20 minutes it will be done. We will have it with a little bit of summer squash, cucumbers and potatoes.
Jackson Weaver

My Pa shoots the turkey in the field. It weighs about 30 pounds. He takes the feathers off with a knife. Sometimes he gives me a couple of those feathers. He opens it up and throws the guts away. You cook it at 11 degrees for 8 seconds. You put it in a pot and then just sit there until it gets a little burned. Then I will eat it with my family.
Wyatt Drosehn

I will have turkey at Oma's house. It will be 8 pounds, as big as a pig. Randy will kill it in the woods. He will drag it home by a rope around his bones. When we clean it, the feathers come off then we put it in a bowl and put it in the oven. We will stuff it with green beans and brocolli. We cook it for 7 minutes at 8 degrees. It is done when it dings.
Kyleigh Cooper

My turkey will be 4-feet long and 2-feet tall. It will weigh about 3 pounds! It will come from Big Y when mom buys it. She will throw it in the trunk of the car until it is Thanksgiving. Then Mom will take it out and put it on a tray and then it goes in the oven for 60 minutes at 8 degrees. We eat it with other food like peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and fluff, ham and pizza!
Mckenzie Witto

I get my turkey from the forest. I catch it with a net and bring it home for my family. My daddy will have to take the feathers off and make it into a Christmas present for my mom or he could make it into a feather pie. Then we will put it in the oven for 20 minutes at 10 degrees after we stuff it with bread and chicken. Yum!
Luke McKearney

Mommy will cook my turkey. She will put ham inside of it.
The turkey will be big, big, big and tall like my daddy. It will stay in the oven for 2 minutes until 2. I will eat turkey, ham and chocolate chip cookies. I am happy on Thanksgiving.

The turkey comes from the turkey's mom's stomach. Then it is born. Then it grows up and then you cook it. You put it in the oven or the grocery store cooks it, whichever one. If you cook it, you put in the oven for probably 40 minutes at probably 10 degrees. My mom puts the seasonings on it. Then I eat it with my grandfather, my grandma and maybe Auntie Mia and Uncle Nate. We don't use and forks, with the bone we just grab it. We hold the bone and then we eat it but only if it is an arm, a leg or a wing. And if we have the body then we usually use a fork. I love the butt and the fat, it is delicious! I love them!!
Alena Pantano

We go to Walmart to get our turkey. We put it in the oven at 10 degrees for 10 hours. Then we eat it. We don't like anything on it, we like it plain.
Mynevere Simken

You kill the turkey and put it in the oven. You go to the woods and daddy and mommy kill it. Then they bring it to Nana's house. Mommy cooks it. She puts salt on it. She cooks it in the oven at 10 degrees for 4 minutes. You know its ready when it beeps. We eat corn and potatoes with the turkey. We see all our family at Nana's.
Alaina Chittenden

You go to the Turkey store to get your turkey. You cook it for one minute. When it beeps take it out. Cut it and eat it.
David McKearney Jr.

You get the turkey from the woods. You have to run around and chase it in the woods. You pick it up and don't let it go. It flies around the car on the way home. We cook it at my house. It just flies into the oven. You cook it for 10 minutes. It beeps and you know its done. Mom and dad cut it up. We just eat the turkey by itself with a fork.
Griffin Dubis

Papa would bring me my turkey. Then I would leave it out for an hour to unthaw. I would stuff my turkey with lots of fruit and put it in the oven on 5 degrees for 2 hours. Then my family can eat it.
Gianna Witek

We get our turkey cold from BJ’s. Mom and Dad put salt and pepper on it. We cook it in the oven for about 5 minutes maybe. Mom cuts it up and puts little strawberries around it. She puts it on a nice plate for everybody. Turkey is OK. It's not my favorite. I like dessert!
Islay Campbell

The turkey comes from the forest. You catch it with a net. Then it goes to the store. It was probably on sale at Walmart. You boil it in a pan when it gets to home. You boil it for 5 hours with salad in the pan. Then you eat it with plates, spoons and napkins. We don't eat anything else with it.
Jackson Larabee

My dad gets our turkey but he never tells me where he gets it. They take off the head before they cook it. They cook it in the oven for 60 seconds. They put stuffing inside the turkey and nothing else. I just eat the turkey. I think my Nana and Papa come to my house to eat and I think they eat other stuff with the turkey.
Gavin OLeary

You have to get the turkey from in the woods. The people from the store bring it from the woods to the store. Pretty much I think my mom gets it from the store. She cooks it in the oven with that monitor thing. She cooks it for maybe four minutes. Then daddy and mommy eat it because I don't like it. Sometimes I eat corn and that jelly stuff that goes on top.
Luna

My mom always gets the turkey. She gets it from the forest. She sneaks out at night and then she comes back when I am asleep with the turkey. Then I wake up and get out of my room and see the turkey. Mommy cooks the turkey. She just puts in the microwave for 50 minutes. She puts salt and pepper on it. Then she cuts it and puts it on the table. Then we eat it.
Dominic Viens

I don't eat turkey. I am going to my gram's friends' for Thanksgiving. She might buy chicken instead. I love Thanksgiving! But I don't love turkey!
Kylie Hewitt

My mom usually gets a turkey with no feathers. It just has little arms. She puts it in a pan with water on top of it and cooks it in the stove. It cooks 6 minutes at 5 degees. When the thing pops up, it's done. Cut it up and eat it. I like turkey!
Luca Golin

We are having Thanksgiving at my house. My dad is going to get the turkey at a store. We cook it in the oven on medium. When the timer dings it’s done. Mom and Dad cut it and put broccoli and tomatoes around it for us to eat. I tried it before but I don't really like it.
